I write science fiction narratives for video games by combining character-driven storytelling, snappy dialogue, and worldbuilding with the mechanics and structure of the game itself.
My work ranges from branching interactive narratives and visual novels to RPGs, strategy games, and other interactive formats. I focus on creating stories that give players choices that matter, while fitting naturally into the systems and structure of the game.
Below is an example of my writing, followed by links where it can be viewed, and the other science fiction projects that I have worked on in different capacities.
Home, Again
Home, Again is a science fiction interactive narrative about the last remnants of humanity living aboard a failing colony ship, more than a thousand years after leaving Earth.
As people begin dying aboard the ship, the protagonist—Mallory—becomes convinced that humanity needs to return home. After discovering that the ship carries terraforming technology capable of restoring Earth, she begins planning a way back, despite the Council’s restrictions and the warnings of N.O.O.D.L.3, the robot assigned to keep her safe.
I designed and wrote the narrative, including the branching dialogue, characterisation, worldbuilding, and multiple endings (which use an invisible karma system). Player choices influence Mallory’s personality and the direction of the story, with different approaches leading to three possible endings.
The project was also developed using GameMaker, Chatterbox, and Crochet, and I have ported it to Twine, Inky, and Ren’Py to showcase my versatility with different narrative tools.
