Camp Nano, April 2015: Day 17 & 18 – Welcome home, sanitarium

At Tallulah‘s request, I’ve decided to continue writing for the rest of Camp NaNoWriMo. Yes, I’ve already finished the story I wanted to, but I do feel as if I have more to write. I must confess that after completing my first ever novel (novella) I’m on a writing high!

Today, I started on the new story. My inspiration comes from Silent Hill, and I’m still not sure if this will be a FanFiction or not. The story is called Cul-de-sac, which is a tentative title. The new tale (currently) takes its name from the setting. The area is similar to Silent Hill, but won’t contain any of the same characters. Hey, most of the video games aren’t even connected so I may be able to get away with it.

The protagonist returns home (childhood home) after an accident lead to a patient’s death. When they arrive, everything seems so familiar yet so different. The people are all the same, but the area, houses, even the road itself is run down and not well kept.

I have an idea of where I want to go with it, but I’ll make more notes as I go along. This is very different to Skinless in that it’s not a noir, science fiction, or fantasy, but rather a story focusing far more on horror this time around. Both stories involved the protagonists having dreams, but I’ll see how that plays out with Cul-de-sac. I may just change it.

I am feeling a lot more confident in my writing process now. Yes, both stories will require a lot of editing when done, but I feel more disciplined when putting words to paper… or fingers to keyboard. Writing feels more natural to me than most other things I do. Welcome home, Graham. Welcome home.

On a side note, I’ll be using Grammarly for most of my grammar support during this event.
